Hello,

I have these three books looking for a home. You only need to pay me the postage and packaging cost to get them to you. Otherwise, they're going to the charity shop. All are in good condition.

Orchids As Indoor Plants (Brian and Wilma Rittershausen, Blandford Press, Poole, 1980, reprinted 1983)
£3.00 (UK Only)

Orchids As Hosueplants (Brian and Wilma Rittershausen, Ward Lock, London, 1989, reprinted 1990) HARDBACK
£5.50 (UK Only)

Orchids For Everyone (Brian Williams et al, Salamander Books/Hamlyn, 1980, reprinted 1987)
£5.50 (UK Only)

All three are good books, and my favourite is that last one.

Please email or send a pm if you are interested.

Many thanks!

A photo of each book is below. I'm a bit surprised no-one has jumped at any of these. All are still available. Pay P&P only!

I fear this is a sign of the times. My own Society has a very extensive library which has been built over many years. Few people use any of the books these days and a couple of years ago we tried to sell some but totally without success even to specialised dealers.
I guess the first port of call these days is the internet, but so many people do not realise that one needs to be so careful about what they see as being good advice or not.
Somehow, too, people seem to think that because the books are old everything in them has gone out of date. I am just reading through a collection of old 1970/80's AOS magazines and the information in them is terrific. Maybe the plant names have changed (even a few times) over the years but other plant and culture information still hold good to-day. Being very much a "refusenik" about changing names that does not bother me.

Indeed... a book I am not selling is "Orchids: A complete guide to cultivation" by Eigeldinger and Murphy. This is from 1971 and still full of useful unusually detailed information.

I have two of those books, and excellent they are too! "Orchids for Everyone" was my orchid-bible for a long time! The "Houseplants" one I don't have - I'd be potentially interested in it, but experiencing a cashflow problem at the moment. If you're willing to hang on to it for a couple of months for me, then I'll have it...?

The other two books I heartily recommend.

I'm bumping this thread. I didn't get round to disposing of these yet so here is one more go on here. Offer until the end of November.

And I've added prices above (the prices just cover P&P - the books are freeeeeeeeeeeeee).

Thanks.

I can say from many years of experience, sending books by mail is not cheap at all, especially international. A normal size book sent slow mail from the US to China cost $16 and heavy book can go $20 to $40 a book. This is one reason it took me so many years to bring back my books to china, it was cheaper to carry them in my luggage and carry on bag on each R&R trip.

As for old books still valid today I have books dating back to the early 1800’s whose information is still as sound as the day the book was printed, except for possible name changes. I collect any kind of orchid book and have since 1968.

I'm actually just reading a copy of 'Orchids for Everyone' and agree it's excellent. Right now I'm reading through a massive section on growing in a greenhouse, which would be excellent for anyone getting one.

Sounds just like the book I need,my greenhouse is destined to be orchidized (is that even a word!) in 2016.
Running out of windows in the house, n then there's the O/H.
My orchid fever just keeps growing.

I'm just after joining and new to orchids so would be interested in the 2 remaining books if you still have them.
