Dactylorhiza virdis found growing on the tundra of the Northside next to the North Korean Line of Chang Bai Mountain China. This genus has not been recorded before at Chang Bai Mountain. The tundra is alpine level and is part of UNESCO and is not open to tourism. You must apply in advance and hope you get an ok to go. When you get there it will take about two hours of paper work and getting a pictured pass. Then they drive you up and back. You are so close to the North Korean side (No fence) you will be stopped by the PLA (Chinese Army) and checked. They will look at anything that can take or contain photos. And they instruct you not to try and point your cameras in the direction of North Korea.

Sounds like a fun place to visit Kenneth!
A very good find though.

It is peaceful and beautiful and very protected. It has no record of being discovered at Chang Bai Mountain, but is documented in many other places in China.

China back some time ago gave 2/3rd's of the Chang Bai Mountain to North Korea as a friendly peace deal. It was a shame that they did this, this mountain is a very Large inactive volcano. It full of water and is called heavenly lake, the mountain is poorly researched. You could spend a life time researching it. Most of it is still virgin untouched pure natural habitat, but the DPRK (North Korea) wont allow their side explored by outsiders.

A very peaceful and serene looking landscape (shame about the paranoid regimes !)

Great to see that orchids may be colonising areas they weren't before.

Either that is a very low growing Rhododendron in Photo 5 or it's a plant (but not in the botanical sense !)

Yes it is, all the way up to the 2,200 meter level.
