I'm new to this forum but not new to orchids. Rather more than 50 years ago (before I married) I had a small greenhouse full of species orchids. I bought most from Mansell & Hatcher, who sadly don't seem to be operative now. I sold my orchids when I married.

A few years ago I bought a few Phalaenopsis and now am trying others in the house (Zygopetalum, Dendrobium, Cambria) but space is very limited. I miss the species that used to be available but the advantage of the new vast range of hybrids is that they cost only about the same in absolute terms as they did 50 years ago, or perhaps even less if my memory is correct. I seem to remember buying an unflowered Odontoglossum hybrid for £27.

Welcome! I feel that species, and hybrids are more available than ever, if you know where to look!

Let us know what you want to grow, I'm sure we can show you the sources :)

Welcome, Bernard.
You and me together mourn the loss of Mansell & Hatcher for their outstanding Odontoglossum plants. Just not tracked down any substitute for that quality these days - just stuff which comes out of Holland all the same but good value for general use.
